African Peace and Security Council (MAS) rejected effort by Attorney General of the International Criminal Tribunal to issue arrest warrant against a number of Sudanese senior officials including the President of the Republic and accusing them of committing crimes in Darfur in line with the resolutions adopted during the 11th ordinary session of AU Summit.

The Sudanese News Agency quoted the Sudanese Delegate to the AU as saying that the Council affirmed, following a report yesterday by Deputy Attorney General of the Tribunal about its activities regarding Darfur, the need to encourage a political settlement instead of resorting to measures to be taken by the Attorney at The Hague.

The Agency added that the African Peace and Security Council underlined in its meeting at the Permanent Delegates level, the need to give priority to political solutions to settle conflicts inside the African continent.
