President Mubarak submits a request to amend Egyptian constitution

The Egyptian President Husseni Mubark announced that he submitted a request to the Egyptian People's Assembly, on Saturday, to amend article 76 of the Egyptian constitution, related to the method of selecting President of the Republic.
The Middle East News agency quoted President Mubark, who was speaking yesterday in the people's conference in Al-Manwfia University, that the two Chambers would start discussing the request to amend the article, so that the election of the presidential candidates be made direct by the people, as prelude for their presentation for a general referendum before the coming presidential elections in Egypt.
He added that has taken this initiative, which he described as fundamental transformation to reach new horizons on the way to form.
