2006-06-03 Libya has inaugurated a new gas field, one of the major gas fields explored in North Africa and one of biggest fields of natural gas in the country.
Attahadi Field for the production of natural gas and condensers is a subsidiary of Sirte Company for the Production and Manufacturing of Oil and Gas.
The gas project was constructed by the Korean company Hyundai.
The Chairman of Sirte Oil Company said that the total net production of the field is (270) million cubic meters of gas per day and (36.000 ) barrels of condensers daily.
? The cost of implementing this project was ( 566) million dollars.? He indicated.
The new gas field was funded by the Libyan Foreign Bank, Foreign Investments Company and the Central Bank of Libya.
The Secretary of the National Oil Corporation said this field is very important in promoting Libya?s position as one of the oil and natural gas producing countries and as a pioneer in this field.
? Libya has huge quantities of natural gas, consequently many international oil companies from China, Japan, India , Europe and America have shown their keen desire to invest in oil and gas projects in Libya.? He pointed out.
Libya also signed several contracts with international companies for the exploration of oil and gas. Liquid gas is already exported to Europe through pipes under the sea.
The Secretary of the National Oil Corporation confirmed that Libya is open for all international companies to invest in the exploration and drilling operations.
He announced, following the opening of Attahadi Field for natural gas and condensers, that a number of exploration blocks will be offered in the upcoming third round which will be based on competition and transparency.
? There are ongoing discussions now with a number of international companies aiming at developing petro-chemical factories and to proceed strongly in increasing gas and oil exploration operations,? he said.
